I have an early to mid 80's H18 with a non-comp tip mast. The mast doesn't have a halyard lock. I don't know if the boat shipped without the lock or if it was removed by a previous owner. I'd like to install the lock on our mast, but the only one I can see in the Hobie parts list is Halyard Lock (Comp Tip) 61610101. Does anyone know if this can be installed on a non-comp tip mast? If not does anyone have any alternative ideas?

Thanks

Is it the whole stainless strap riveted to the mast... the hook?

Or maybe... the "flopper" which was a small part on older hooks?... which many removed because they were more trouble than they were worth. They simply made un-hooking easier, but made hooking the ring harder.

If the actual hook, may require using one from another model cat.

My mainsail hook came off my all aluminum mast when I broke a shroud anchor pin on Lake LBJ in Texas. It, the mainsail lock, is currently sitting at the bottom of the lake somewhere.

I ended up having to use a Prindle hook because my dealer did not have an all aluminum mast lock in stock and couldn't order one. I had to mount it to the starboard side of the mast instead of the port side like the Hobie hook. I filled in the holes from the Hobie hook rivets with rivets and silicone. Has worked great now for about 6 years.

If you decide to mount a Prindle hook, be very careful to get the actual hook in the correct position. If you mount it too far forward (towards the front of the mast) it will never latch. If you mount it too far rearward (towards the main halyard and sail track) the hook will interfere with the mainsail bolt rope and won't allow the mainsail to be raised completely.
