I once got my Hobie 18 turtled and stuck in the silt. We got out with the help of a friendly power boater. But I am pretty sure that the top part of my mast is bent now, or was previous to this mishap. When I look up it from directly below it appears that the last two feet or so (the comptip?) wanders off to the right. Is it possible that the two parts of the mast can separate? If they do separate what's the best way to get them back together. I don't believe that using some of the methods suggested on this forum for straightening a mast would work in this particular case e.g. straightening the mast using ratchets or bottle jacks.

the mast can separate at the tip, should be obvious. If so it will likely need to be removed and reglued/riveted. May have cracked the tip or just knocked the track loose as well. Need to drop it and inspect.
