anyone w/the whirlwind fathead see the need for the metal sailtrack insert you can put up at the top of the comptip?

I'm doing 4:1 cascade to 8:1 downhaul & wondering if it's worth pulling the hook assy from the comptip to install the metal sail track section (it's about 12 inches if I recall...) sitting in my spares box.

Thanks... -Rob

I have one on my mast but not sure it is needed. The pinhead sails would pull out but Whirlwind sails seem to have a thicker bolt rope which stays put.

The aluminum piece sort of snaps on. You have to remove and cut your plastic track to size(which also snaps on). Be careful removing it as you can damage the tip. It goes on way easier than it comes off!!

If the sail pulls out add it, if not leave it as is. Worst case you will have to pull a pinched sail down, its not going to damage anything unless its a nuclear wind day!

Is the comp tip able to support the square top main properly? How is the twist off?

but agree the solid stick is a better choice.. if you have the choice....

cheers...
