Hi all,

Im very new to hobies and am currently working on fixing up an 18se a friend gave me. I think I am missing a plate or something on the inside of my transom that allows the rudder to bolt on to the transom. There is an approximately 4"x5" square indentation in the transom on the inside. Fiberglass is all there and looks cherry, just looks like something is missing like a backing plate. Is this wood or metal? Also, how would I go about fixing this? Thanks

-Mike

yes, there is a backing plate inside the transom. stainless steel I believe. I haven't had to repair one, but am curious how it went missing. I'm sure Matt Miller can fill in the blanks.

Not stainless. Aluminum. About 1/4" thick. If it's truly gone, just get a piece at the hardware store, cut to size, drill and tap.

Thank you very much guys. Its really hard to find info on that plate. So it has to be metal, not wood? I assume because of the fact that wood can swell?

Needs to be metal, not only because wood rots, but also machine screws don't hold well in it.
