After reading the excellent article in the latest Hotline about rebuilding a H18 with the newly built hulls, I got to thinking about the section on adding anchor plates on the hull outsides at the rear crossbar. Reason being for added strength at that point when using wings.

My '88 H18 does not have those anchor plates. Since I'll be adding Magnum wings to my boat this spring I am curious how common is this upgrade, and did later boats that came with wings as OEM equipment have this plate already added?

Rear anchor plates were never OEM equipment. Its not a very common upgrade and probably overkill in most cases. I did it to my '85 red glue boat because it started cracking in that area, but I haven't felt the need to do it to any other, newer boats.

I added the anchor plates to my 89. With wings I thought I would be better safe than sorry later. A benifit is the added port in the rear, better air circulation to keep the boat dry.
