I've seen them on several 18s'. The pigtails extend the jib blocks from the clew. Allows for shorter sheets. I don't know quite how long they should be. My understanding is they create a cleaner line for air over the sail. Would like to add to my boat and will, after I get some dimensions at the next race I see one.

5 to 6 inches. Handier for crew in positioning jib on the downwind leg.

John, Do you have a picture of how they should be done?

Can someone post the URL to the picture of a young maiden on the wings of a H18, and ahead of her, one can clearly see the pgitail set up? I cannot find it on my PC.

cheers

No.

Don't know the proper name, I call it a cow hitch, to attach a single line (3/16") to the eye of the jib. Tie each clew block individually to the end of each "tail".

John,

That was a nice photo, I couldn't find it either. :(
