have an old SX main and jib, and a H17 main don't know what to do w/them. mylar peeling off, remaining taffetia (sp?) material too thin to do much with. can't bear to trash them. what to do? ideas ? thanks. |

H*ll, if they're delaminated ... you can't even make luggage out of the material ... (there's a place in Annapolis that does that w/ old sails ...) |

This what will work for sure. Pick a windy day, 10+ knots and set you mylar and enjoy it rip. Take an exact-o-knife with you if it resists. Take a video of the entire event so we can all enjoy it. Take lots of pictures with you and the shredded main for bragging rights. Then, you can brag on how hard you sail and have pictures as proof. After you done with it, you will have no troubles to use it as a painting drop cloth, or keep it as a trophy. I will not tell anyway.

FWIW we've used saillavieusa.com (Brigid Thompson out of Minnesota I think) to take our old sails and make a variety of things for us. Since the sails contain some great memories it's fun to see them coninue to be used. Several have been mentioned: placemats, shower curtain, all sizes of duffles, wall hangins of logo and sail number, and beach bags. It's pretty impressive what they can do. |
