Hi everyone,

After sailing for a few years I decide to pick up a Hobie 18 when the opportunity presented itself. I picked up an H18 from a friend of a friend last summer for about $350 from a guy who was just looking to to get rid of it after his kids were grown and out of the house. Deal came with boat, sails, trailer, etc. It needed a little bit of TLC but I knew for that price I could put some money into it. After sailing it a few times the jib gave out along one of the seams (it already had some duct tape over the window).

I sent the jib to a reputable (I believe) sail repair guy in Rochester, NY who said it wasn't worth fixing, so I just asked him to send it back.

I'm looking for some help and recommendations on what to do from here. I really want the sails to match and I like my current design of Cat Fever but I'm not too attached to it. Do I get it fixed? Find a replacement? Ideas on finding another jib?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Evan

You options are:
1. Order a custom jib from Hobie, but they won't be able to match the old pattern. Hobie currently has the color yellow in their loft.

2. Order a new jib from another sail maker, but they, too, won't be able to match the original pattern.

3. Hunt for a used replacement, but that will take time and luck to find the right pattern.

Hobie will be more expensive but the quality and cut will be tough to beat.

order any new sail main or jib from Whirlwind sails in California. My new main is perfect!
