Great job! I can truly appreciate the amount of work that you did to get it looking that nice.

my story is more of turning a worn out nag back into a thoroughbred,

my second Hobie was a brand new 1988. we owned it until 1995 when it became difficult to sail it with our young daughter onboard, so we sold it. fast forward to 2008 when after the wife and I discussed buying a used Hobie, I stumbled across MY old H18 online and bought her back! the fella who had her for 12 of the 13 year absence was not too kind to her. the original EPO rudders had been busted and replaced with the white nylons, the sailmaker-made jib snorkel was gone and the jib showed signs of fading along the leech, all the standing rigging and hardware was original, and there was a soft spot in the port side deck in front of the rear crossbar. heck, I even discovered the trailer was STILL titled in MY name, after 13 years!

I set about replacing the rigging with new, recondtioned the hulls, having the sails gone over by my sailmaker and all the other myriad things we do to our boats to keep them in top form. I named her Arís, which is celtic for 'again' (and sounds better than Deja Vu) she is our pride and joy again... and our now grown daughter has a blast on her with us.

here she is with my wife and nephew from 2 summers ago.

His wife said sell one of your 18s or sell one of your Corvettes!!

Besides, have to make room for the next one.

Yes Scott, My wifes 2 out 1 in program worked quite well for a number of years.
But I guess I fell off the wagon! Just like some of the folks up the hill at the dryout clinic (The Serenity House).

The way I look at it is the project is Half finished not Half started. (Well the one closest to the street is finished. The one in the garage needs another 100 hours)

And somedays you just need to do a little block sanding to get your Chee back. (18 in middle of driveway)

So maybe its better to look out from the garage than to look in. (At least the H18 closest to the street is ready to go for a sail and my race 18 parked across the street and the 16 in storage)

The advantage to the one in the garage is it does not get SOFT SPOTS!!! (I fondly refer to it as my quilting project.)

What Corvettes do you have, Cork Guy? A vintage Corvette is my dream car. I went to Atlanta a few weeks ago to look at all of the vintage ones at the big Buyavette Corvette dealer. When I drove to Indianapolis to get my most recent Hobie 18, we passed the national Corvette museum in Bowling Green, but didn't have time to stop by. Maybe one day.

Wow, beautiful job cork guy. Thanks for saving her. Can I ask where you got the large Hobie hull decal? Dealers carry them?

Don't encourage him. He's got Hobie 18 on the brain and his wife will kill him if he brings home another one, then we'll be out a division racer.

They are in the Hobie Catalog Fall 2012 page 40.
The trick is to look in the back of the catalog in the index. The part number for the red diamonds is #12451021. For Turquise the number is 12451031.
The last order I placed was supposed to be for the latest decal being BLACK like what comes stock on a 2012 H16 but it is not listed in the catalog.

Call your dealer.

I bought her a Hobie SUP last year. Now I have a get out of jail free card!
