New cat sailor question here. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have new Whirlwind sails. My boat had no sails when I bought her in the heap that she was. How do I best go about getting sail numbers? I am assuming that they must be "issued" by some authority?

Thank you

G

No issuing authority that I know of, at least for aftermarket Hobie sails. A lot of people just use their hull number.

Congrats on the new (to you) boat!

Do what I did. If you want sail numbers tell Chip you want sail numbers, then give him any number you want and he'll put them on. He'll also put the Hobie flying "H" and class insignia, too.

If you aren't racing then you don't need numbers. And if later you need them then you can put any number you want on there using some kind of cloth or vinyl stickers. Sail numbers are used almost exclusively for identification in races.

Thank you. I was, as usual, over thinking the issue. I will just use the hull ID and call the sail man!

You can make the number easier than the hull number. Try your birthday, or to score points with your wife, her birthday. The number can be a single digit. I don't recommend your PIN or Social Security number, though.
