How does a jib cover work? How is it zipped up the forstay? Why would I need one? Thanks.

Yes, it works. The main halyard is used to raise it or you can install a block and halyard for it. I leave my jib furled and in the cover when I drop the mast and for trailering. I find it works great except for on the beach in strong wind, blows around too much and chafes the jib. If you secure it around the jib tightly no problem, it wasn't designed to fit tight enough around the jib while standing.

I would like to know how you tighten the jib cover to reduce the friction on the jib sail. Do you something like bungees to wrap around the cover as you raise it?

I put a line thru the eyelet and hold the bitter end. Pull up the snorkel, line runs thru the eye. When raised you have two ends of the line at the bottom. Wrap them around the snorkel in alternating directions and tie off at the bottom. It took me several times to come up with this, It works well in all but the strongest winds on the beach 15-20kts +
