I seem to be having a problem with my jib halyard staying in the jam cleat of the sail. I am tensioning the Jib by sheeting the main then raising it so the wrinkles in the luff disappear so I know I'm not using it as a fore stay. I am using the line that catalog calls for as I bought it at my local dealer. Anyway anyone else have this problem and if so whats the fix. I was thinking just going up to about an 1/8" line and calling it a day. |

The system uses two lines. It sounds like you may be trying to cleat off with the smaller diameter line. What Hobie calls the "halyard line" is a 1/12" diameter batten tie line. This long thin line is only used for raising the sail. Once you have the sail up, you remove the halyard line and do the final tensioning and cleating using a shorter, larger diameter "tensioning" line. I use a 4mm diameter line for the tensioner, no issues with slipping in the cleat. I also tie off the excess line around the forestay to make sure it's held in the cleat securely. sm |

as usual you are on top of it SRM. That's exactly what I was doing as I was told that was what was supposed to be used. I shall order some 4 mm to fix it how long should the short end be? |

I don't know the exact length, somewhere between two and three feet should do. I only do a 2:1 on the tensioner, not 3:1, so it uses less line. sm |
