Anyone know the ID (inner diameter), OD, and length of the rudder arms (complete, including inside the "head")... and for the tiller crossbar? |

Tiller tubes are all the same ID 15/16" OD 1 1/8" H18 Tiller tube after 1985 (current) 18.875" Tiller Crossbar (current without ends) 76" |

Seems like it is a non-standard size. Based on what Matt posted, you need 1.125 OD, 0.938 ID (0.094 wall). I do not see an exact match on McMaster. They have the ID, but 1.25 OD. They also only sell up to 6’ length which will not make it for the tiller crossbar. I don’t even see this size on Ryerson’s site, which tends to be the go-to for metal stock. Also, if you buy a blank tube, it will not be anodized, which means corrosion may be an issue. Probably best to just bite the bullet and buy the Hobie part or source a used part on ebay/craigslist, etc. sm |

Not worth it to go after market: https://www.onlinemetals.com/en/buy/aluminum-round-tube You're $150+ bucks for tube, for just the tiller connector (cross bar), and that's BEFORE machining and anodizing. Aluminum tube has gotten expensive. You won't anodize yourself (most likely), so that means painting to keep it from rotting away immediately. Looks like there's only a certain few alloys of that size, in particular 2024, in only a T-3 temper. Not the best choice and a little softer than what you'd typically want. I, personally would either go new or used original and I'm one to rig stuff up from the sheer joy of "doing it myself". |
