. . . does anyone know why Hobie quit making the 18?

If nobody is buying them (new), then there's no reason to make them.

Sales had dropped to a point where it was no longer economically worthwhile to produce them.

James,

If you are ever near Annapolis during sailing season, let me know and I will get you out on mine.

Best as we can tell... Racers started buying 20's, non-racers needing the payload started buying Getaways.

Thanks for the replies everyone. All of that makes sense to me. Its a shame the 18 had to come to that fate, but I've seen that there are a good number of well maintained 18's out there.

I'm sure in a few years I'll be wanting to upgrade to either a new 16 or some other form of cat. Never hurts to start making considerations now if you know what I mean.

And thanks for your offer Hobie Nick, I might have to take you up on it. Never been there, so there's another reason.
James
