Has anyone a solution to the problem of removing the dalphin striker rod corroded into the crossbar end castings, perhaps using some sort of acid that desolves the corrossion but not the aluminium or stainless?

The best way that I've found to break the corrosion between two dissimilar metals is to use heat. For the Dolphin striker rod heat the castings only after removing the crossbar from the boat, then tap the rod with a large drift and hammer so you don't mess up the threads. Before reinstalling anything where two different metals touch, grease them up with a corrosion blocker. I use Lanocote.
To getthe DS loose from the Xbar use heat again. Heat the interface between the dolphin striker and forward crossbar both top and bottom and give it a whack with a hammer. If you need to save the dolphin striker post put a block of wood on it before you hit it. Also remove the tramp before you break out the MAPP gas so you don't melt it.

Hope that helps.

I just replaced my mast step on my H18. I tried to persuade it by using a hammer. I ended up using heat and in about 5 minutes I had everything apart. Use the heat and save yourself some time.
