Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi. Have been reading these forums for a while now as I have been looking for a good deal on a Hobie since spring.

Finally after half a dozen near misses on Ebay and classifieds, I was able to get my hands on an H16, just to hold me over until I could find an 18. Sailed the 16 for one weekend, then found my 18. Traded my 16 to the guy selling the 18 + some cash, and couldnt be happier. She is an 83 and seems in very good shape. Sailed her last weekend on Lake Michigan, ( I live in Grand Haven, MI but the boat is up by Manistee), and had a great time. WOW. I learned to sail on a big Prindle which was fun, but this 18 seems twice the boat to me.

So anyway, great info on this forum, and delighted to be a new owner of the fantastic H18. Can't even imagine why this boat is not still being made. I had not trouble single handing it.

Welcome, Many Hobie 18s on the beach at Muskegon, south side. Questions, just ask on forum or stop by on weekends.

Just got an 18 myself... unlike you I never learned to sail. So wish me luck.

Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome....!

DVL, As a kid I remember seeing all the Hobie's on the beach just inside the Muskegon channel. I have been trying to figure out the best way to use my 18 closer to my home (Grand Haven), rather then only get to sail when I go to my cabin.

I don't think I want to use the "Cruise & Carry" motor method through teh G.H. channel. It woudl be like trying to ride a moped through Chicago rush hour...lol

Do you guys keep your boats there on the beach through the summer? If so, is it public / state property? Do you need a permit?..etc.

Thanks!
