Yeah, I don't really see that the "quick release" accomplishes that much. It seems that with any load on the hook, it would be mighty hard to yank that pin out. I've never had any problem getting off the wire in a capsize, and I can't really think why you would want to "bail out" while on the wire.

I, too have done "depth charges" - usually as a result of the knot letting go on the trap ring and/or the rope lock breaking. As a consequence, I now double the rope locks and tie better knots. :wink:
