Post subject:  Ideas for Hull Designs

Hello All,

I'm in the process of rehabilitating my 16. I've found lots of blisters in the gel coat, and the old pin stripes were in pretty sorry shape. So I decided to strip down the hulls and start from scratch. I've done this before with my keel boat, so I'm familiar with the process. But I figure, why go with plain old white like everyone else.

What I'm looking for is some inspiration. If anyone has done any custom designs, I'd like to take a look. I recall a post on here with some pretty sick looking blue flames, just wondering if anyone else has done anything like that.

Thanks

I saw a pretty good imitation of those old WWII P-40 Tomahawk Flying Tiger eyes and mouth on a couple of 16 hulls. Pretty cool boat.

You could always go with a classic 1972 Orangeish-red / yellow look. :D

Yeah, I had thought about some teeth. Or possibly orange with tiger stripes (yeah, I know it's not really a Tiger).

This is really just a way for me to occupy my mind while repairing blisters for hours on end.

On another note, I was able to remove the horrible stains on the hulls from being left in the water for several seasons, and thus uncovered the blisters and cracks in the gel coat. I used a fiberglass stain remover from west marine, really worked wonders. The stains actually just dissapear, no scrubbing. Here are some pics.

What if you painted the hulls a turquoise color with a white tramp? That might be cool. Dunno.

I wouldn't change a thing. Meridian Blue top deck and white hulls, the best color combination Hobie ever offered. Mine is an 82 with the same hull colors. My sails are "Smokin" (blue, yellow and white.) My wife likes the colors so much, she won't let me move to a Nacra
