I just picked up a 1978 Hobie 16. I got a trailer with it but the previous owner had never used it and knew nothing about how to secure the boat and the proper set-up for hauling. I got it home successfully but I'm sure there has to be a better "method" or something.
Can you help me out?
Thanks in advance.
Nick

Hi Nick,

I just purchased a '79 Hobie 16. The trailer I got with the Hobie was also very basic, but after a few additions is working fine.

I can't really tell what's bothering you from your original post, so perhaps you could say a little more.

I found that installing an eye-hook on the trailer frame at each corner, and using a nylon strap that ran from each of the post in the hulls to the eye-hook really holds the hobie well. My trailer didn't originally have this setup, but does now.

Murrays (murrays.com) has a package just for this....

Hey, Dan!
Thanks for the reply.
I think I've got it pretty well situated. I took the boat over to my local sailing club and the guys and I went over her and figured out the best way to secure her to the trailer.
We also gave her a once-over, tuned the rigging, and--after a 1 and 1/2 hour test sail, confirmed that she's water-tight and very seaworthy.
I'm really excited! This is the first sailboat I've owned and I'm looking forward to a great season of fun on the water.

Now I just have to come up with a name... :)

Nick
