I've yet been able to right the 16 after a capsize. Even with my 200llb son in law. I've been reading up and noticed in photos/illustrations a small point of interest?

I've been tossing the righting liine that goes around the frame pylons - UP AND OVER the top of the sky facing hull. And trying to right the boat by pulling back on this line. recently I noticed all of the righting pics I see have the righting line "UNDER" the hull... so that rather than pulling on the top hull - it's pulling at a lower point on the framem pylons. This I think would really change the pivot point and would make a major difference? anyone ever done it wrong (like I have vs right?)

Up and over the hull also would make my righting line shorter - so that would be a plus too. Anyway - thought I'd share this aha moment for others that may be having problems righting their boats here as well.

Hoping the line under the hull will make a major difference.

i always have the line over the hull with the aid of a righting bucket works fine for me

I also have always had the righting line over the upper hull. If you and a 200 lb. crew aren't able to right it there is something else wrong. Are you getting the mast toward the wind? Is there water in your mast? Are you leaning out far enough? You should be leaning almost horizontal. You should get someone who is experienced at it to watch what you are doing.

i am 200 and am unable to pull it over without extra weight- sail solo. I use a righting bag that I bought online from coloradobagcompany.com for around forty bucks- it holds about 150 pounds of water and works great. in fact is my second bag because I lost my first one as i was dragged behind my hobie after righting it. had to let go of something. I was out of control that day but i knew i could get to boat back over.
