Hi All,

I am new here and have a question. As a youngster, my dad bought a Flamer model Hobie 16. That was back in 1975 or 76. I have been hooked on Hobie's ever since. His sail number was 19436. My question is this, does the sail number match the hull number?

Now, 30 years later, I am 41 and own my own Hobie 16. My hull(?) number is in the 17,000s (now I cannot remember it of course) but this is on a plate attached to the mast. The sails have a 69,000 number, and I am guessing they were replaced some where along the way, before I bought it.

Does anyone know if there is a registery or any place that I might be able to research the history of the boat?

No - they have at most only a general time relation to each other.

Mast serial numbers have nothing to do with hull numbers.

Sail numbers / mast serial numbers / hull numbers are all independent.

There is no registry of mast / sail / hull numbers.

You can find out when your boat was made (month / year) by deciphering your hull number - go here to find out how to do that.

Alrighty then, thank you MBounds for the reply. I will check it out when I get home tonight.

Sorry if I sounded a little terse in the reply - it's Monday and I hadn't had my caffiene injection yet!

I noticed you're in Lincoln Park - where do you sail? The Detroit Fleet is having a fun sail day on May 7 at Cass Lake and you're welcome to join us.

Go to http://www.fleet276.com for more info on the fleet.

No problem at all, I understand the acffine thing.

Two years ago I sailed mainly out at Kent Lake, but I lived in canton then. My wife and I bought the house in LP last year, and my poor boat sat on the trailer all season. The house was in need of many repairs so that came first.

Then, I crew on a J/24 out of Port Huron and that came before my own boat. But not this year. I plan to use the Hobie regularly. In fact, I plan on pulling it out to our place in Mass for a week, or down to the Gulf, out of Bonita Beach, FL. Either way, its going on vacation with me and will be used this year. I have some repairs to complete, which is what led me here.

Thanks for the invite, I am not sure I will be ready by then, but if I am, I would love to come out. I grew up in West Bloomfield and did the majority of my sailing on Orchard Lake as a teen. And we used to go to the beach on Cass, Koliva (sp) Park, or something like that. Its where all the Finn's hang out, or at least it was years ago.

In any case, I will check out the fleet link in the meantime.

Thanks again,

Todd
