Post subject:  Old Style Mast Head Replacement

Recently purchased a used 1986 H16. Looks like the mast head may have some cracks in it and could use replacing. I saw a reference on another post that the comp tip mast head will fit on my aluminum (non comp tip) mast. Is this correct? Is there still a seal that is needed like the old style mast head? Do I need to purchase anything other than the part 20614001 and some rivets?

Thanks in advance!

If the top of your mast is not currently sealed then I'd take the opportunity to seal it. Heck, I might re-seal it just to be safe. Other than that, I think you should be okay with your old stuff but I haven't made this switch so I can't say for sure. :)

So, aside from the seal, should the comp tip mast head fit on my all aluminum mast?

Yes it fits fine, make sure you seal the new mast head on good.

Post subject:  CompTip mast head

CompTip mast head also requires the CompTip halyard.

In order to do this repair myself, I will need to aquire a rivet gun. Anyone have some recomendations (best bang for the buck)? Also I saw a post on another topic mention using casings with the rivets? Can someone please help me with this?...

Thanks!
