Post subject:  Tramp Removal?

I have inherited a damaged 1981 Hobie 16 that had been flipped over onto a dock in a storm. There is a 12" tear in the front of the tramp just behind the starboard side of the forward crossbar. (Yeah, the mast was broke too.) Anyway I want to remove the tramp to get it repaird but there is no opening in the sidebar track to get the bead of the tramp off the sidebar. Do I have to take that side of the frame off the hull and remove the sidebar from the frame to remove the tramp?

If it is not there look at the aft end of the frame. Someone might hve put it on backwards.

I'm new at this but I'll try to show some pics of the tramp frame. I put two pics up at: http://mysite.verizon.net/skating.rienks/hobie.htm. You should be able to see what I'm trying to describe--there are no openings in the sidebars to allow the tramp to be removed. I found a guy on Ebay with a tramp for sale and I asked him how he was going to remove it and he told me the same thing you guys are saying--slide the bead out through the flare in the sidebar groove. But, there are none on my boat. I guess I'll have to disassemble that side of the frame.

The html link for the pics included the period so it didn't work. This will work:

The opening is there. It is a flair in the track.

Unlace the tramp. Pull it out of the forward crossbar. Push it into the groove in the side bar to get it un-stuck. Sometimes they get wedged a bit. Use a big flat blade screw driver and a mallet. Work the length of the track tapping the rope straight into the sidebar. Once there you can slide the tramp aft about 6 inches then the slot will be more visible up front. Pull the front through the slot and slide the tramp forward and out through the slot.

Thanks Guys--it worked like a charm. I did have to remove the screws that hold the jib sheet cleat though. They went through the tube into the tramp bead. I think it is the original tramp and it came out quite easily once I realized how small the flare was at the front of the side bar.
Thanks again---this is a great forum! I search through it frequently when I need help.
