The (my) new jib has a line on top - (like in the old days), and a grommet on the bottom, above the tack. The tack has a shackle (no line). What's the grommet on the bottom for? Downhaul? And why the line top? Why not a shackle on top and downhaul (adjustment) on the bottom?

Thanks

Rico - I have no idea what that extra grommet is for either.

I totally agree that the line should be at the bottom and the shackle at the top. I drilled out the rivet in the shackle at the bottom and moved it to the top using a clevis pin in place of the rivet. By switching it you end up with a luff tension adjustment using the line at the bottom.

Yes - that's what we used to do before they moved the line and shackle - now that it's moved again however - I was wondering why.

Before I move the shackle and line - what's the current (new jib) set up designed to do? - Matt?

Thank You

Rico

With the line on top, you will be able to get the jib lower to the front crossbar. With the line on the bottom, you can make easier adjustments.

6 of one... half dozen of the other. It boils down to personal preference.

The extra grommet is standard in the World Wide pattern and can be used as a cunningham (luff adjustment).
