hear - tell that newer sails have a teflon bolt rope? and that the sailcloth is of a heavier weight?

My question is, if either of these are true, in what model year were these features introduced.

Thanks in advance, John

What good would that do? The rope is enveloped in dacron isn't it. Teflon is an electo-chemical bonding process like chrome. Not sure you can apply it to rope.

The bolt rope that we refer to is an assembly of polyester line, wrapped with Teflon impregnated Dacron that is sewn to the sail's luff:

It's way better than the sails that came before - goes up the mast much easier.

BTW, that's a brand-new Hobie 14 sail that's yet to see the boat.

hey...is the 14 NAC going to get skipped over this year? If so, what a shame.

We're working on an alternative. Probably be a weekend event combined with a points regatta.

I'd like to have my older sail modified to match this. Currently I SOAK the top few feet
of sail rope with lubricant. It's still not easy to get the sail hoisted.

Is this teflon/Dacron cover available anywhere?

What is the diameter of the rope?

Thanks!

Sorry for bringing back an old thread but can someone answer the above questions. I'm interested as well. Thanks!
