How is the review on the new velcro jib batten pockets(Used at the Worlds).Is HCA thinking of going to these?

They've been class legal since May of 2004 (voted in at the Mexico Worlds). Apparently the South Africans had already been using them.

I haven't heard anything good or bad about them, other than Rich McVeigh lost a batten in the crazy wind when the Velcro let go.

The velcro jib batten looks like a good idea but in practice it is very hard to work with. It's nearly impossible to get your batten loosened at the end of the day and you need a little push rod to put the batten in. This little push rod fits in a sleeve and after just a week of use you could see this was going to be a high maintenace item for your sail maker. On top of that you could lose a batten like I did if the velcro lets go.

I like the US system the best, simple and it works.
