In looking for used 16's it seems as though newer models are scarce.

Which raises this question for Mr. Miller and Mr. Bounds...Is the number of boats produced per year info available?

I'm guessing 1981 to be the single biggest year.

Just curious :?:

Sales numbers are never published for a variety of reasons, but as far as history?

The mid 80's was the peak.

We are selling more 16s these days than we did for may recent years.

Sales numbers can be misleading, too.

Hobie Cat counts sales to dealers. Those boats may not end up in the end user's hands for months or even years. If stored properly, a Hobie Cat in its original packaging would be as good as new 10 or even 20 years after it was "sold".

There once was a dealer not too far from me who reportedly bought over 400 boats in one year so he could claim the title of the "Worlds Largest Hobie Dealer". Lord only knows how long it took him to sell that many boats - even in the mid '80's when this happened. Needless to say, he's no longer in business.

I remember the days when I worked for a dealer in '79-'80 when we were selling them faster than we could put them together. 10 to 15 a week in the summer. Very good times. :D
