Exactly where would be a good location to mount foot straps. I don't mind making a mistake but I don't want a hull full of holes in the process.

Thanks,

David

David,

This has been a topic before and location is "somewhere" between the transom and the rear corner casting. Drilling through the gunwhale lip will avert any major repair (other than filling holes) if you aren't satisfied with your first choice of location. Exact location is a matter of personal preference.

Here is a description from a previous post
Quote:
I've also seen folks set up two straps so the skippers' back foot is in the strap about eight inches from the transom with his foreward foot on the corner casting and one closer to the rear pylon for the crews' back foot and their forward foot on the hull or tramp rail.

Don't take this as gospel, it's just my opinion.

Thanks John, I've gotten some great ideas from your info. Thanks again.

David, where did you end up putting your straps?

I installed straps last summer but they were nearly useless because they were all the way aft. Even with my trap wires lowered all the way down, I couldn't get myself that far aft. My trap wires are not adjustable- maybe that will help get further back.

Whilst on subject I've been considering this as an upgrade option so I won't be creating any further pitchpole/cartwheel photos lol.

So my questions, what foot strap brands did you all choose?
Any photos of install or position with your opinions would be great.
