i recently restored a hobie 16 that was severely damaged on one pontoon .all my hard work paid off it came out great.sunday was the big day and having never sailed a cat before i was real excited.set up went well.and we headed out 5 min. into our sail boom, the right stantion anchor broke and down came the mast.nobody was hurt thankgod and the family took it well !after examination found the anchor rotted from the inside out, HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE?[/b]

What year is your boat? I have heard of this with hulls that are delimitated. There should be no noticeable flex in your hulls and they should sound hollow when you tap on them. I always recommend you let a Dealer inspect any boat before the madden voyage. If there isn't a dealer close by then call one on the phone and see if they can talk you trough an inspection. They should be willing to do this for free! Let me know if you have any questions. I had the same thing happen on the first time out. The wind was just picking up I was getting ready to fly a hull and pow. Mine looked like it had rotted from inside out also. It snaped just above the washer no sign of fresh metal. |

The word "stantion" may be refering to the pylon post that holds up the trampoline frame? These are aluminum and they will corrode over time at varying rates due to water types and weather conditions. Or, are you talking about the "shroud wire" anchor? The stainless pin that is bolted to the lip of the hull? These can be cracked and show rust inside. One more item that should be inspected before sailing. With boats getting really old... some over 30 years old... these types of problems will become more common. |

  WELL FINALY WENT OUT TODAY AFTER THE BIG MISSHAP AND EVERYTHING WENT GREAT EVEN FLEW A HULL ,THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO POSTED WITH SUPPORT,I APRECIATE IT
