If you have the old style castings, you'll need to fill/re-drill the upper hole in the rudders. Try moving the center of the hole forward and up (about the the 2 o'clock position when looking at the starboard side) about 1/4". The new hole will overlap the old, so use a small diameter bit to drill a pilot hole first.

I have the old style rudder castings ...

what do you fill the hole in with?

My rudder is white. (dull white after weathering all these years)

I used JB Weld with my white lexan rudders. The rudder/tiller hardware will hide the holes so the color is not important.

Put a piece of tape over the hole, flip rudder over and fill old hole.

In this picture you can see at the top hole where I had filled 2 other holes in the past, before drilling the one for the best rudder rake. The JB Weld was not involved in the rudder breaking many years later.

There also was a good article with pictures by Bill Mattson on "Raking Rudders - Correcting Helm on a Hobie 16" in "On The Wire" May/June 1989 issue.

I have recently made / invented a simple tool for resetting cams on the Hobie Dragoons and Hobie 16s of the RCIYC in Jersey Channel Islands.
The tool does not damage the cams and is very easy to use and make. Please contact me if you wish to receive further information or
a video demo clip.

Hi all,
First post in the forum here. We found a tool to flip the rudder cams unlocked on thingiverse. Not sure if they will let me post a link as a new forum member, but I'll try:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4606236/files

We have printed it out and will try it this evening. We are close to having our $400 H16 on the water - it may be ready after tonight.
