Ever since I upgraded my '74 to a comptip I have been unable to get my boom lower than the insertion slot on the mast, I can get it lower if I really crank the downhaul but that flattens out my sail. I cut my mast exactly to the req'd mesurements.

Since taking the comptip out is vitually impossible now, I was thinking if I took the cap and wheels off the top and shaved off an inch or so that might fix the problem... I would also have to move the halyard stop sleve down and re-rivit it.

Any other ideas? or insight?
Thanks,
Luke

I can only guess that the wrong dimensions were actually used. The CompTip replaces the upper section exactly.

There have been two CompTip versions. The original was out for a very short period in 1985. This required a cut that was about 9" above the tang. It came with a bolt to attach. We quickly went to the current version. You cut the mast at ( 18' 3 3/4" ) from the bottom of the extrusion (not including the base casting). There is no difference in downhaul when installed. The cut should have been within 1/2" or so from the top of the shroud tang.
