I still consider myself a newbie and am pretty desperate for a lesson or two on my boat to nail down some of the basic details better.

I can't find anyone close to me and am seriously thinking about purchasing Rick White's seminar series on DVD. It's no small investment in and of itself, but neither are sailing lessons.

Has anyone ever used these? Would they be appropriate for my level of skill as a beginner?

I have the DVD and it's pretty good, I think I got it for $99 from catsailor.com. It has been a while since I watched it though.

I would also suggest Rick White's book "Catamaran Racing: For the 90's" which is available for about $30 (Amazon). I learn something new every time I read it.
