is my mast safe?

HI,
My mast has a dent in it 6 feet from the base, and the bottom part of the mast is slightly bent. This happened from a dismasting when one of my shroud chain plates snapped and the mast fell onto the dock. is this mast safe to use or do I have to find a new one? any help would be appreciated.

if it is only a small dent then it"should' be okay, however w/o seeing it this would be hard to say for sure, even then we can not be 100% sure. maybe digital pic's could help.

I have sent a couple of pictures to you Brad. I have also talke with some of the other hobie sailors here and the consensus is that the mast is at best dangerous to sail with and good for scrap. I have looked at buying a new mast and heard that it is $2000 is this correct?

If you're careful you can stand on the top of an aluminum can and it will not crush. The slightest dent in the side and your weight will smash it flat.
This is the same idea as the structure of your mast. Especially with a dent low, there are a lot of forces at work. If it were above the tang it might be alright. Replace it!

thanks for the advice. I think I have found a mast, that is relatively cheap, so I can go sailing again !
