one tack better than the other

I posted this on the repair forum but it should probably go here.


My boat deffinately beats to weather on a port tack better than starboard. Any ideas. There is a slight bend in the mast (about 3/4" over the length of the mast) to starboard. Seems to me that would make things act just the opposite. Shrouds look to be about the same tension but I haven't checked them yet. Help

I think it is all in your head .... How did you determine the difference? Compass reading or GPS?
Check you chainplates, check the alignment of the rudders, check the alignment of the hulls (to each other)

I posted a similar question, because I feel more confortable to weather on a port tack and feel as though the boat is faster. I asked if other sailors "feel" they are better on one tack than the other, and got back all kinds of things possibly wrong with the boat as you have suggested; i.e. bent mast, shroud lengths, rudder alignment, blah, blah.

I agree with yoh, put me on any boat I'll be faster on a port tack, or at least I'll think I'm going faster.
