My boat has one continuous line for its tramp lacing which I need to replace. Hobie specs say to use 3 different lines--one for the middle and 2 for aft, so what I have is not exactly right and I don't want to just re-do it the same way. I've read the posts about using the mainsheet blocks to cinch in the side rails but I have yet to see anything about where to begin lacing, where to end and if there are any tricks to tying it off so it stays tight. Any help is much appreciated!

With the 3 line method here is what I did.

1) Feed the three tramp pieces into the side rails and cross beams.

2) If you choose to cinch the side rails in do so now with whatever apparatus you like.

3) Start at the front of the tramp. Tie one end of your lacing line to the first grommet with a bowline knot.

4) Feed the line through the grommets working aft and keeping tight the entire time.

5) When you reach the rear tie off the lacing line.

6) Pick one side of the rear part of the tramp to start on.

7) Feed one end of the next lacing line into the small hole on the rear corner casting. Tie a figure eight knot in the end so it won't pull through.

8) Begin lacing towards the center keeping the line tight.

9) When you reach the center tie off the lacing line and begin again on the opposite side of the tramp.

10) Remove any devices used to squeeze the frame.

11) For the first season w/ a new tramp you may have to retighten the lacing regualarly as the tramp will streach a bit.

Use an inexpensive line and soak in a bucket of water before beginning.

Recruit someone to help you and have them jamb a fid in each grommet holding the line taught as you go. Use a large pair pliers or other device to twist the line and tighten at next grommet, your helper moves the fid to the next grommet and repeat. We go through each set at least twice.

The lengths now listed are for double grommetted (sp?) newer tramps. Depending on your year you may end up with quite a tail of line.
