So it looks like I need a new Trampoline for my Hobie 16. It is extremely faded and rough on the knees. The end of of last season when I flipped once I ripped one of the hiking straps off at one end.

Or do I???? This is the back side of the Trampoline

Looks like I could sew new hiking straps on the back side and just flip this thing over and use it for another season. I may add a new pocket to the back side too.

What do you think? It is an original Hobie mesh trampoline from a 1990 boat. I don't think Hobie even makes this blue color anymore. I don't want to change colors as it matches my sails and Hobie Decals I added to the hulls last year.

If I have to replace it I may be forced to go aftermarket to get a blue one if Hobie doesn't offer it any more.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Hey, I flipped my yellow one and got about 4 more years out of it. The straps are not a factor if you spend any time out on the trap. I eventually bought a new hobie teal mesh one and love it. Forget the matching colors. get something serviceable and sail the crap out of it. My favorite thing to do is beat the crap out of the guys with their matching sails, pfd, and everything. Another real plus is passing a guy with epo rudders with my plastic fantastics.

It's done! I flipped my trampoline and sewed on new hiking straps. Also cut the pocket off the old top side and sewed it on too.

It looks great! The real test is if you fall thru in the summer... :P

By the way, what did you use to sew the new hiking strap on? Just a needle and thread? My hiking straps are all worn and ripped. This may be my solution.

A place I used to work has an industrial walking foot sewing machine. I used that to sew the new straps and pocket back on. I don't think I would like to try to hand sew that... Probably too thick for a home machine too.

Good luck!

I sew everything with Spectra fishing line like spiderwire or PowerPro. When i say everything i mean from patching up 70 year old WWII uniforms to a button to upholstry. The stuff is abrasion resistant and doesn't mind getting wet. You can choose from a wide range of breaking strength. Its expensive so try to find a friend that uses it for fishing and snag a few feet or a stub spool.

You could also pound in a couple grommets and use rope to tie the straps on.
