the bolt that holds the rudder on both my 83 upper castings is like welded in to the castings, the nut will come off fine but the bolt is like welded in to the casting and wont spin at all. any ideas on how to get it of? thanks |

Big Ass Hammer - same thing happened to me years ago. Hit it with some liquid wrench and then put a nut on the end and then smack the nut till the bolt starts to move |

Moderate heat works, too. 300 - 400 deg. F for a few minutes, then bang on it. |

Be patient, Spray the WD and wait a few hours , spray again, wait overnight. Then before you hammer the threaded end of the bolt, put the nut partially on it and hit the nut, easy at first. That way you will save the bolt, and not splay the end of the bolt making it too big to fit through your casting. Put a wrench on the other end of the bolt and see if it turns a bit, then add more WD..and so on. |
