Did the same thing. I shattered my fiberglass pole, went to Home Depot, bought an extendable broom stick, bolted the tiller extension joint hardware to the end, and wallah, an adjustable tiller extension. I never was able to try it out because I sold it with another boat that didn't have one. I even painted it and made it look really cool.
