Post subject:  Replacement Parts

I intend to trailer my 16 to Lake Erie a couple times this summer (2.5 hours each way) and am somewhat paranoid that something will break and ruin an entire weekend. Based largely on other "spare parts" postings on the forum, I have assembled a pretty comprehensive list of tools and smaller spare parts (such as ball bearings, ring dings, shackles, rudder cams, mast step links, etc.) but wondered what larger spare parts folks typically keep on hand. Working with a limited budget, would it be worthwhile to have a spare rudder, tramp, sails, etc, or are these items that are unlikely to break and/or could be sufficiently mended to get through the weekend? I guess my question is, besides the small stuff, what is the most likely piece of non-trailer equipment to fail and ruin a weekend (I have an 83 with mostly original parts, other than new standing and running rigging).

Spare tire for your trailer and the tools to be able to change a tire; or pay AAA insurance for that coverage.
When I travel with my H16 I always take along a pop rivit gun and rivits, wire cutter, a swage tool and some swages [I think that's what they are called], and I also take along some spare shrouds, etc. that I keep whenever I replace them with new rigging.
I try not to get too carried away with larger spare parts, but you never know.

If you're pushing the boat with '83 plastic rudders, it's just a matter of time! Popped one on my daughter's '83 H-14 during a screaming reach last fall!

thanks for the posts--I will add a rivet gun to my list and have posted a "wanted" add for a spare rudder blade.
