Post subject:  Cat Trax

I have a Hobie 18 on a lake.. Need a good way to get it out of the water every day. This is lake use. I have a wood ramp that is wide enough for the wheels on my cat trax (that came with the boat but never used before by me). The wood ramp is not wide enough for the hulls of the 18. The ramp is pretty steep. Not sure of the degrees.

I am trying to figure out if I can use the Ctrax to haul the 18 up the ramp. Also trying to figure out how to load the boat on to the trax and make sure it does not slip off backwords as the trax are being winched up the ramp.

Would be interested in videos of ctrax in use. Or even pictures.

Thanks

Hi sailscycle, maybe someone on the Hobie 18 forum could offer a suggestion viewforum.php?f=13 if you have not tried there already.

Otherwise here is a thread that might help spark some ideas: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42851 and here viewtopic.php?f=23&t=35775&p=149276&hilit=ramp+shore#p149276 and using the forum's excellent search feature you might discover more threads.

Just envisioning... one of those trailer winches fixed to a stake onshore (or to a car) and a less steep and wider ramp might do the trick. Interesting engineering problem to solve. The cat trax method seems ripe with peril but might be worth a try - I just do not have experience with them to say.

Let us know how you work it out!
