Post subject:  Main Sail Battens

I just want to say I finally had a goood Saturday sail here in the southeast. No rain & wind 8-12.. I was solo and my 16 would fly a hull. :D

While I was flying my a hull I was noticing that my main sail was curved and stayed cured. This is not like my previous Main sail that would just about flatten. When I changed mains, I set the battens about as loose as I could go, thinking this would help me with the dog days of summer. (2-5 mph with a puff here and there).

I've seen batten tension gauges in the Hobie catalog and always wonders if there were different settings for battens.

Are there batten adjustments to go faster.

During toady (Saturday) I have found more speed than the other boats on the lake.

Thanks for any information
Harry

batten tension does affect sail shape, more tension fuller sail, less tension flatter sail. As a general rule though, just put enough tension on the battens to take the wrinkles out of the batten pockets.
