Okay everybody, I have races tomorrow, and my upper gudgeon broke today, the screws are still in, so the holes aren't stripped which means all I have to do is replace it, the only problem is, the store only had the lower gudgeon so what I was thinking was I just put the lower gudgeon on the upper gudgeon spot, can't be that off right?

I was just nervous that the tension would be off somehow because of how the lower gudgeon is made but I can't see the problem. I just wanted a little reassurance and to see what you guys think, thanks.

Hook,

As long as the threads in the two holes through your aluminum plate are fine, a 4-holed (bottom gudgeon) will fit in the top location. You don't need to put in the top two bolts since a bottom gudgeon is basically two top gudgeons back to back.

The lower gugeon is just two upper gugeons flipped back to back and welded together. I would buy the lower gugeon and carefully cut/grind off the weld. Then you will have two upper gugeons. They won't be pretty, but should get you through the weekend.
