Thats sorta what I figured. Just wanted to check to see if there was an easy way I was not thinkin about!

I have one of these on my 16. http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc ... re_Code=MS How are you supposed to use it? I cant see it being very easy to get the line over the hull that is up in the air? Am I missing something simple? Bout the only thing I figured is pulling up from the bottom hull, until there is enough slack to hopefully get it tossed over the top hull? |

Pull the line over the top of the upper hull. That gives you a better angle to pull and right the boat. |

Ya I get that...but how the heck are you supposed to reach it from the hull you are standing on. |

I always pull out the slack from under the hull and then throw it over. Is there a better way to do it? I just barely can't reach it from over the hull and I'm 6'. |

Install by routing it outside the shroud wires. |

I guess I'm 6' + maybe a 2' reach with my arms = 8' reach. It gets harder to reach when you're standing on that slippery bottom hull trying not to fall off. Another question along these lines (pun intended) is where are you guys tying off the line near the transom? I had mine looped to a thin spyderline dyneema line under the rudder gudgeons but it rubbed so bad that it broke in only a few sails. Maybe it was pinched. I'm going to try it again with some electrical heatshrink over the line near the rubbing points. |

I drilled a 1/4" hole in the rear hull lip for a small peice of line to go through. I could not see any other way that would not end up chaffing and wearing the line out when you turn the rudders. And ran it around the outside of the shrouds. Guess I will find out sooner or later how much of a pita it is.

You lose a ton of moment by going under or between the hulls. I am 5'7.5" and have to go forward and climb up and retrieve the line over the hull. I use the hawaiian system. Works great. |

I also have the Hawaiian System. It goes on the outside of the shrouds and goes over the upper hull when righting. I also use it for grandkids and inexperienced adults who need extra balance and stability when trapped out. I have submitted the video below as a separate post. |

Many of us on our beach tie a line to the righting line on each side of the boat that we can throw over the hull, then we can use it to pull the righting line over the hull. Im only 5'7" and it works great for me. The line is just long enough so you can reach it when thrown over the hull. |

Works great. Not excactly.....the force from your weight that's trying to counteract the mast is determined only by your body position, not where the line is attached. Pulling with line higher up is much easier on your hands/arms, though. I'm about your same height, and I always ran mine inside the shroud so that I could reach it easily (under the skyward hull). Another thing for folks to consider with this hollow braid/shock cord system....be sure to tape all the ring dings on your shrouds. This line will snag them and pull them out...then you'e got worse problems than how the righting line is attached! |
