Full shoulder/back or skipper's harness?

Hi, I need to buy another harness as the one I have was given to me by the prev H16 owner and its too big for me. Its a full back Hobie harness the new blue/grey ones.
Ill keep it for any crew, but need one for me.
Was thinking of the skipper's harness for more movement, less weight on me and less bulky.

I will be sailing sometimes for 1-4hours and sometimes for 8 hours straight as I plan to do in Dec. Heading to the USVI/BVI for new years (Jost van Dike)if I can find someone as crazy as me.

What do u guys recommend?

I did notice the convertible has a higher seat/lower back section than the skipper harness....
Anyone had experience with the skipper harness on long sailing trips?

As long as you are kind of sitting upright it is fine. If you try to lean back for longer periods, the back is not well supported.

What size would I want to order for the converitble or the skipper's harness?
Im 160-165 pounds with a 31 inch pant size at waist.
All I have tried on is the Full back harness I have, its size "Large" and I think its too big!

The local Hobie dealer doenst have any to try on...have to order knowing size.

Greg Thomas uses the convertible. He says SM/MD (Small / Medium) #1378SM for you.

there is a line of product called the Magicmarine - I like their smart harness for the $$$ some of their fancier stuff seems to have a nice quick release for the spreader bar...

How much is that Smart Harness? Navigating the website on dial up is pretty much impossible

I went into magic marine's web page and even though they show several harness models, no price. Then when I try to access the link for the US distributor/store its inactive... no web page. No way of accessing their producs buying etc??

we sell mostly Hobie convertible here at the shop, we dropped the magic marine like when Hobie came out with this harness! Small medium will fit most people up to a 34" waist, the move to the large. I have a 36" waist and can sue the small/medium but its tight.

A bit off your main topic, but did I read that you plan on "island hopping" on your hobie from Puerto Rico to the Virgins? WOW. You go dude! I can only image nothing but incredible tales from such an undertaking. I'm an offshore enthusiast, but never dreamed of taking my hobie off shore. Have you done anything like this before?

Yes I have...it all started with a Sunfish my ex's brother gave me,,,fixed it up and sailed regulary to smalls keys called Icacos and Palomino, about three miles offshore north east of Fajardo (easter tip of Puerto Rico), overnight camping with ex etc.

Then I bought a JY15 about 5 years ago, which I still have and sail regulary (every month) off Fajardo (east PR) and have even sailed 25 miles offshore to another island called Culebra (island municipality of PR) in it (two times). Camping gear and all. Once It took me 13.5 hours straight from sun rise till down (with a crazy friend), and the second time I did it over two days camping half way at a key called Cayo Diablo...

Reason why I bought the H16...compete localy in a sail fleet and regattas and go farther on my sailing adventures....the plan this new year is from PR to the USVI and BVI and back....
Still dont have a crew mate for that one though!

Look up on the web for PR, the municipality of Fajardo and Culebra island,Icacos, Palomino and Cayo Diablo (all east PR) so u have and idea of what Im talking about.

Oh "Cayo"=key in spanish.
