Can anyone tell me what year this hobie cat is by just looking at the picture? Is it a special edition? Did hobie make olympic editions? USA editions?

Hope this isn't a double post ... its been a day since i tried posting this before.

Looks like a repaint to me...if that is yellow gelcoat I'm seeing towards the sterns on the top deck?

The graphic package isn't anything that came out of the Hobie factory. The diamond logos on the side are from the early 2000's, but nothing else is original. It's been heavily decorated by the owner.

No red decks have been produced since the early 70's, so it's probably painted.

The mast is not a Comptip, so that makes it pre-1985.

My guess it that it's a late '70s / early '80s boat that been painted and dressed up with graphics.

I actually bought this boat used for $1000 including, the boat, sails, trailer, and trailer storage box.

The seller had some papers that said it was a 1986. I don't see anywhere on the boat that confirms this year, lol. Yes it has been painted over red on the hulls and has aftermarket decals. There is a slight bend in the lower mast, sad sad day, but I am trying to let it slowly work itself out with gravity by laying the mast over the tramp frames. The bend is just the length of the tramp from the bottom of the mast up, so it seems like someone let it sit tied down this way while trailering it, or the forestay snapped and the mast fell backwards onto the back frame. No dent just a bend.

Thanks for the replies!

Gravity alone is not going to straighten that mast by laying it on the trampoline. Think about it - wouldn't the sidebars bend, too?

You have to get the aluminum beyond its plastic deformation limit - which will take a lot more weight than just the weight of the mast itself.
