It's my understanding that Vista Point will close (for the season) the week of Sept 26th?? Is there another Launching Point at Jordan Lake? Does Poplar Point work? It looks like there's a beach to the left of the ramp? Thanks in advance! |

There's a whole bunch of other ramps, including a free one off of Farmington road before Massey chapel. And it has much better beach area. I typically launch from there as it is also the closest ramp to my house here in Durham. Takes me about 15 minutes to get there. I only go to vista for the social scene. I take 751 to Massey chapel and then turn right at the t with Farrington. It's right there. Jim |

I think you are referring to Farrington Boat Ramp off Farmington Road? I'm looking for a spot south of 64 bridge. From Google maps it seems that Poplar Point may work? Any ideas down south? Thanks in advance. |

John, I was out at vista point this week. I think you were mistaken on the closure dates. There is an event next week (triathlon I think) that will close the point for that weekend but vista point doesn't close until November for the season. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/jord/main.php Enjoy it while you can. |

Thanks Heelcat. You are correct. I actually emailed to be certain. It closes Nov 26th this year. Which is much better than Sept... |

poplar point is a pain - concrete ramps with rocky shoreline wither side - stick to vista or even seaforth which has a small ramp off to one side with a muddy beach and is just across the lake from poplar |
