i see many people running a furling jib so my question is how does the h16 work with a jib without battons? i only ask as it would eliminate the hassle of the jib getting caught on the mast whentacking |

the stock sail won't work if you remove the battens, since it has a large roach leach - you need to have the sail re-cut so that the leach is hollow - otherwise it will flutter horribly. Or just get the rec jib already to go from your nearest Hobie dealer - and save the stock sail for racing. |

The battons are better. I started the summer without them on cheap rebuild 16 that I have on lake Mich. I found a set on ebay for like $40. In addition to stopping my worn out jib from trying to beat itself to death, I could feel a noticeable increase in power by the butt-o-meter . Well worth the hassel of sometimes having to move it past the mast on low wind tacks in IMHO. |

Order a set of Hobie Super Battens for your jib. They are about 1/3 the stiffness of the regular battens. Keeps the sail shape and stops the hang up problems. Not sure about overall impact on speed. I have not noticed much difference. |

Super Jib battens are from your Hobie dealer, under $40.00 for the set. |
