Post subject:  Hobie 16 mast question?

Once the mast is raised with the pin inserted, it then needs to be removed so the mast can rotate. So, the only thing keeping the mast in place after that are three stays? And the weight of the mast?

Also once you have the sail up it acts as a back-stay.

The forestay is loose so there might be room for the mast to lift out of the socket but once the jib is up and the jib halyard tightened, the mast is held down in place. The jib luff wire becomes the forestay.
