Great Boat !!!!! I take it those are the original sails - The color patern looks quite unique, What year is it? I found a little silicone spray in the sail track on the mast works wonders, just make sure its free of dirt first.
Your in for quite the buzz . Let us know how it goes.
Happy sailing
Mark

It's an 82, as far as I know, they are original sails.

I got my permit today for the cat-dock at the harbor... hopefully the wind picks up a little this afternoon and I'll get it in the water after work.

Didn't get it in the water today as it rained late in the afternoon and there wasn't much for wind, so we didn't bother...

But I did get the main up all the way and locked into place like it's supposed to be.. I raised it a couple of times and locked it to make sure I can identify if it's locked or not.

in order to identify if it's locked or not you can also wip the main halyard and you will notice there is no tension at your hand and that the 'wip' stops before the mast end.

watching the sails picture, you can see a lot of wrinkles all allong the mast, this is caused by the lack of tension wich is given by the main halyard hooked up AND the cunningham pulling down.

Maiden voyage was today... a short little sea trial. :) We got a late start because of having the wrong size ball on the hitch, so a quick run to 2 stores to get that solved and we were off and running..

Stepping and launching was no problem... but the winds sure did die down as soon as we got out on the water.. had some trouble with the weeds and lack of wind in the harbor but once we got turned the right direction and the wind picked up a bit we had a nice little sail.

I got wet from waves... so I think that constitutes a successful trip... One thing we needed and didn't have was a paddle... it would have got us out of the mucky weeds in the harbor a lot faster than paddling with our hands.

We went out for about an hour and a half.. just cruising around the harbor and a little ways out of it. Man, we came about once out in the open water and got caught in irons a little... eeked our way around and bam it took off like a sprinter out of the gates!

My baby is in it's spot now at the cat dock down in the bay... so it's relatively painless to launch it... just need to get the sails there and go! We plan on heading out again after work tomorrow!

Sorry forgot my camera... :(

Oh... for names?

I had a list I was working through at work.. what I'm leaning towards right now is:

C:\Worthy

It's computer humor...

Catatonic
Catalyst
1 leg up

Also topped my list.

Two last repairs you need to do to make your boat safe and class legal. Comptip (fiberglass mast upper section) and a non-conducting tiller (fiberglass or plastic).

I don't plan on racing, ever... so I'm not really concerned about being class legal at all... As for being safe... I keep this on the cat dock in the bay, so really, I won't be stepping the mast much at all.

The boat came with a broken fiberglass tiller... it looked a bit too fragile, so I put an aluminum one on there. Tends to be slippery when wet though... so I might cover it with something grippy. I don't have any issues because I'm wearing gloves, but my buddy had problems with it slipping out of his hands.

As for name.. I'm still undecided...

Here is a picture from the dock that I took on my phone after the 2nd sail. I lost my top most batten in my jib. :( The crappy twine I used broke and away it went. I couldn't find the correct line locally, so I'm waiting for it to get here.

Hopefully on Monday, I will take it out again with my boss and his wife.. if so, we'll probably take turns on it and then I will be able to get some pictures from shore of it sailing.

Still having troubles deciding on a name:

c:\worthy (people at work like this one.. I'm an IT guy)

Dos Coronas

Gust Friends

Sketchy at best

Bare essentials

Catalyst

----

I don't know if I'll ever settle on a name. I kind of like Sketchy at Best... it really doesn't mean anything but I'm sure it will describe my sailing abilities for awhile!

That is a very nice boat and I LOVE the sail pattern!!

I dont see any tell tales so you may want to get some of the Black Beauty ones from Hobie. You will be able to see the on both sides.

Or perhaps I just cant see them.

I picked up a used 86 that has the name "Get er Done" on it...
My wife about had a cow when I told her but luckily its not real big on the stern of the boat.

First, great boat!

I'm voting for "c:\worthy" - says something about you, clever, funny, and not too dorky. Actually, I really like it.
