In normal hobie fashion (no info sheet or docs) so a couple questions. I have 5 sail sets but all older.

On my older sails the top head connect point has cord lashed around it to (keep it from slipping down the cable I presume).

New one came with similar lashing at bottom but at the top there is a new metal retainer... (nice) AND some lashing cord... (loose) I SUSPECT that the 4 cords are free included batten tensioners? (since there are 4 and 4 battens?)
but wanted to be sure before I pull them off and use them as such.
Sorry if this seems dumb (but I paid a bundle for these) and don't want to screw up anything. My old sails have similar lashings like these in place of the metal retaining clip.

So the LOOSE cordage are batten ties?

yeah I assumed after seeing 4 stands they were to tie battens. So I did that.
sorry for dumb question. But seemed like lashing cord at first.

Just a thought, the bottom is already all ready lashed. but the top has a shackle connecting it. they could of sent that extra rope for a choice to use the shackle or the rope so you can tension it later the way you want it, instead of having a "fixed" upper attachment. but then again, if its long enough for batten rope, thats probably why its there.

The four lines are, of course, the batten ties.

The fixed luff connection was moved from the bottom of the sail to the top, with the lashings at the bottom because all the racers were doing that on their own - so they could adjust luff tension without repeatedly dropping the jib.

Figure that out once I removed them. They seemed to long, but actually were perfect length. I was glad to see them since I didn't order any.
Hoping I see some in the main sail package too when I open it.
IT was 87 here last year on this date. Today... a SNOW STORM and mid 20's.

Go figure Ron has new sails and it's making spring come SLOWER. = )

I have a question about this...

My jib (2010) came with the shackle at the bottom and the tied part at the top. Somebody suggested that I move the shackle to the top and tie at the bottom like pictured on this new jib. Once I got it untied and switched around I realized how long the cable in the jib actually is. With the shackle at the top, the thimble at the tack of the jib sticks down a good 4 1/2" to 5" inches below the sail.

When I had it at the top it wasn't that long. Is the cable supposed to be slack inside the jib with the boat rigged, with all the tension put on the fabric of the jib? Whats the correct way/procedure to set up luff tension? :? What effect does luff tension have? Maybe it's obvious, but i'm kind of confused... (which is pretty normal) :lol:

The shackle is for connecting the jib tack to the adjuster on the bridle wires, so move it back. Connect the head of the jib through the grommet to the shackle on the jib halyard.

The "ties" are batten ties. Remove them and use them for holding your jib battens in place. Do not use them for standing rigging.

The cable inside the jib's luff is supposed to carry all the tension of a properly rigged boat.
